In short: choose Hatha Yoga when you need to slow down, Power Yoga when you want effort and energy, Stretch Relax when your body feels tight and you need flexibility, and Arabic Dance when you want to move for pleasure and fluidity. At Impress Fitness in Tashkent all four are under one roof, so you can choose a format not once and for all, but for the state you are in today.
In short
- A heavy day and thoughts that will not settle — Hatha Yoga.
- You want strength, stamina and a noticeable workload — Power Yoga.
- Back and shoulders feel tight, you need mobility — Stretch Relax.
- You want music, flow and joy in movement — Arabic Dance.
- Starting from zero — any of the gentler formats will do, and the trainer will help adjust the load.
How to choose: three questions to ask yourself
Before comparing names, answer three simple questions.
What is your goal? Unwinding and sleeping better, building stamina, bringing mobility back to your back, or simply enjoying movement are different tasks, and they point to different formats.
How much energy do you have today? Some days you want effort, others you need a calm pace. A good practice does not fight your state; it works with it.
What is your experience? If you have not trained for a while, it is better to begin with a calmer format and add intensity gradually. If you already have experience, you can go straight to the dynamic classes.
Hatha Yoga: balance of mind and body
Hatha Yoga is a classical, unhurried practice: postures, breathing and attention to sensation. It is the format for anyone who wants to slow their thoughts after a full day.
What to expect: a calm pace, attention to the breath, work on flexibility and stability. It is not a competition: everyone has their own range, and that is normal.
Who it suits: beginners, women who live in a permanent state of busyness, and those returning to exercise after a break.
Power Yoga: energy and stamina
Power Yoga is a dynamic practice for those who look for endurance and a sense of inner fire. The pace is higher than in Hatha and the effort more noticeable.
What to expect: active work for the whole body, sequences of movements and a pleasant warmth by the middle of the class. Afterwards there is usually a good, clear kind of tiredness.
Who it suits: those who already know their body and want more load, and those who find it easier to switch off through movement than through stillness.
Stretch Relax: flexibility and release of tension
Stretch Relax is a class for deep relaxation, flexibility and stress relief. It is led by Sabina Shukrullaeva, a Stretch & Relax trainer who spent 13 years in professional rhythmic gymnastics and has for more than four years helped people develop flexibility and mobility.
What to expect: smooth stretches, attention to tight areas and a calm finish. A good format after a working week at a computer or behind the wheel.
Who it suits: almost everyone who feels stiff, and also as a complement to strength and dynamic training.
Arabic Dance: fluidity and pleasure
Arabic Dance is a mesmerising format that helps reveal femininity, fluidity and natural grace. It is less about the “correct posture” and more about music, flow and freedom of movement.
What to expect: music, dance sequences, plenty of flow and work with the torso. No dance experience is required.
Who it suits: those who are bored by familiar workouts and want to bring joy back into movement.
What about Pilates
Pilates is another way to work with the body gently but precisely, with an emphasis on control of movement, posture and the deep muscles. Impress Fitness offers Pilates Mat and Pilates Reformer (in mini-groups); read more in our article on Pilates Reformer in Tashkent. Yoga and Pilates do not compete: many women alternate them through the week.
How to build a week of classes
There is no universal timetable, but a few principles work for most people.
- Start small. Two classes a week is a realistic starting point. Regularity matters more than intensity.
- Alternate the character of the load. If one class is dynamic (Power Yoga, a strength session), let the next be gentle (Hatha Yoga or Stretch Relax).
- Leave room for stretching. Stretch Relax sits well after a demanding day or at the end of the week.
- Add Arabic Dance as a treat. It helps you stop seeing exercise as an obligation.
- Listen to yourself. If you have no energy for Power Yoga today, it is better to come to Hatha than to skip the day altogether.
An example of a “gentle” week: Hatha Yoga, Stretch Relax and one class chosen by mood. An example of an “active” one: Power Yoga, a strength session in the Technogym gym, and Stretch Relax for recovery. Exact days and times should be confirmed with the club on Instagram.
Tips for your first visit
- Wear comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement. Yoga and stretching are usually done barefoot, so you can bring thin non-slip socks.
- Do not come to class straight after a heavy meal.
- Tell the trainer about injuries, pregnancy, the postnatal period or chronic conditions. If in doubt, consult a doctor first.
- Do not compare yourself with others. Your flexibility today is simply a starting point.
- Do not be afraid to skip a posture: in any class you can take an easier variation or rest.
Who teaches the yoga classes
Two teachers lead the yoga classes. Irina Gushchina studied yoga in India and works in Hatha, Vinyasa Flow and Ashtanga, with 6 years of practice. Sakina Samigullina has practised for more than 7 years, has a higher medical education and a certificate of the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan, and combines knowledge of anatomy with the philosophy of yoga. It is worth trying different trainers: a practice that feels like yours is often found through someone you feel comfortable with.
Questions and answers
Is yoga suitable if I have never done it before?
Yes, you can start at any level. Hatha Yoga and Stretch Relax are the gentlest ways in. Tell the trainer you are a beginner and they will show easier variations of the postures.
How is Power Yoga different from Hatha Yoga?
Hatha is a calm practice with attention to the breath and sensation; Power Yoga is more dynamic and physically noticeable. The first helps you slow down, the second helps you recharge.
What is better for flexibility, yoga or Stretch Relax?
Both work on flexibility. Stretch Relax is focused specifically on stretching and releasing tension, while yoga combines flexibility with breathing, balance and strength.
How do I book and find the schedule?
